Terese Swan Hutchison is a Charlotte native and a 1994 graduate of Southeastern Beauty School. She opened her first salon in 1995 and is currently the owner and operator of The Dooby Shop Salon and School of Cosmetology.
She is a leader in the Charlotte Beauty Industry and the knowledge and experience that she has acquired has positioned her for some top accolades. Terese also extends her knowledge into the community. She is an active business participant in the YMCA Y-Achievers program, Charlotte Mecklenburg Communities in Schools and is often called upon to speak at career days and youth activities.
In 2013, she was recognized as Innovator of the Year by Your Eccentric Style Beauty and Barber Network (YES BBNET) and penned a chapter in the Head Lady in Charge (HLIC) – a compilation of female entrepreneurs. After experiencing enrollment challenges at her school due to not being able to offer Federal Financial Aid, in 2015 she founded Skill Builders Institute – a nonprofit created to be a financial resource for individuals that want attend select Beauty, Barber and Trade schools that either do not offer traditional financial aid or the individual doesn’t qualify for traditional financial aid. Continuing to build a legacy, she is opening a second cosmetology school which will be located in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. She is partnering with Gina Thompson Shelley and Roy Bullard, formerly featured on TLC’s Trailer Park: Welcome to Myrtle Manor, to open Tangulls School of Cosmetic Arts. With the opening of the new school, she will be making history as the first African- American owner and operator of a cosmetology school in the Myrtle Beach area.
In addition to her salons, over the last twenty years, she has owned and operated several mental health companies including group homes, outpatient therapy and she is also a certified peer support counselor
